This book illustrates the importance of transcription factors in gastrointestinal cancer progression and metastasis with regard to understanding the mechanism and target definition in drug discovery. Further, it describes the complex issues associated with cancer cell growth and metastasis. The respective chapters provide detailed information on the various types of transcription factors (NF-kB, HIF-1, STAT-3, E2F1, and Sp1) and gastric-associated cancers (esophagus, stomach, colorectal, liver and pancreatic cancers) in connection with specific functional studies like cell cycle, angiogenesis, migration, invasion and apoptosis. These transcription factors control the expression of several signaling pathways involved in tumor growth, making them ideal targets for gastrointestinal cancer therapy. In closing, the book provides comprehensive descriptions of the major challenges associated with gastrointestinal cancer therapy.

Dr. Nagaraju GP is a faculty member in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. He obtained his MSc and his Ph.D., both in biotechnology, from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. His research focuses on translational projects related to gastrointestinal malignancies. He has published over 65 research articles in highly reputed international journals and has presented more than 50 abstracts at various national and international conferences. He has also served as an editorial board member of several internationally recognized academic journals. He is an associate member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics research program at Winship Cancer Institute. He has received several prestigious international awards and holds memberships with the Association of Scientists of Indian Origin in America (ASIOA), the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB), the Science Advisory Board, The RNA Society, and the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR).


Dr. Pallaval Veera Bramhachari is currently a Head & Senior Faculty member of the Department of Biotechnology at Krishna University, Machilipatnam, India. He has earlier served as Postdoctoral research scientist at the Bacterial Pathogenesis Laboratory, Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR-Berghofoer Research Center),), Brisbane, Australia, and DBT Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He completed his PhD in Microbiology from Goa University, India. His major research interests are the investigation on the applied research in microbiology and cell biology including biochemical mechanism of bacterial-biofilm formations, structure-function relationship of bacterial rhamnolipids, basic and translational cancer research. He has published more than 140 research articles in Scopus-indexed journals, authored and co-authored 6 international books and invited book chapters in prestigious peer reviewed international and presented 47 abstracts at various national and international conferences. He has served as editorial board and reviewer for a number of national and international journals. He is a member of numerous international scientific societies and organizations, most importantly, Indian Science Congress & Society of Biological Chemists, India. He successfully completed two major research projects.

He was awarded Travel scholarship from QIMR-2007, Australia for attending 4th Indo-Australian Biotechnology Conference at Brisbane, Australia, Awarded with young scientist travel fellowship (2007) from the DST, Govt. of India for attending XVII Lancefield International Symposium at Porto Heli-Greece-2008, He was conferred with various prestigious awards, notably, Science Education Research Board (SERB), Government of India-Young Scientist award (2011) with a research project and Nominated as Associate Fellow of Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences (APAS)-2016, MASTER TRAINER: Andhra Pradesh English Communications Skills Project. British Council & APSCHE 2017, Andhra Pradesh State Best Scientist award-2017, Dr.V. Ramalingaswamy Memorial award for Biomedical Sciences-2019. He also obtained two Indian patents in 2017. He has more than 13 years of teaching and research experience at the university level.
