Aki McKenzi grew up by the coast and spent the first 18 years of their life down by the beach, hanging out by the pier. After moving farther inland for university, they made sure to stay less than an hour away from the sea. They have a small garden outside their flat and enjoy spying on the neighbours' cats. Edge of the Empire is their debut novel.
