Al Cross is a political columnist and professor emeritus of journalism at the University of Kentucky, where he directed the Institute for Rural Journalism. He was national president of the Society of Professional Journalists during his twenty-six-plus years as a reporter for The Courier-Journal. He has received numerous journalism awards, including a share of the Pulitzer Prize won by the C-Jstaff for coverage of the nation's deadliest bus and drunk-driving crash.
