Author: Bijoyini Das (1944-2024) was an award-winning Odia writer, poet and social worker whose literary career spanned more than six decades. She authored over thirty books, including novels, short stories and poetry, and her work appeared widely in Odia publications. Her novel Devadasi, first published in Odia in 1989, received the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award in 1991. Her writing is known for its emotional depth and sensitive portrayal of women's inner lives, often exploring the intersections of relationships, social convention, tradition and individual choice. Beyond her literary work, Bijoyini Das was actively engaged in social service and counselling. Her writing drew deeply from her observation of people and society, bringing psychological insight and humanity to the worlds and characters she created.
