Cynthia Sadler, born in 1993, studied at the universities of Marburg, Tübingen, Aix-en-Provence, and Paris, including a period of study at the Sorbonne, and obtained her PhD at the European University Institute in Florence. She was a visiting scholar at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS). She taught at Universität Rostock, where she offered courses on female writers of the Enlightenment and non-normative intimacies in the eighteenth century. Her research focuses on women’s and gender history, the cultural history of theatre and court society, and the history of sexuality, with a particular emphasis on France and the long eighteenth century. She is academically active in both France and Germany and works at the intersection of their scholarly traditions.
