Autor/-in: Dickie Lynn Hill
Dr. Dickie Lynn Hill was born, raised, and primarily educated in the great state of Oklahoma. His forty-year journey in medicine began with the first class of Respiratory Therapy at the University of Oklahoma, where he became both certified and registered in Respiratory Therapy. He later earned another degree from the same university as a Certified Physician Assistant. His academic background also includes undergraduate degrees in biology, chemistry, and history. After graduating from the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, he completed a rotating internship at the United States Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, which at that time was the largest and most active of all military hospitals. While in the Navy, he spent three months in North Africa studying tropical medicine, attended the Undersea Medicine Institute at the submarine base in Groton, Connecticut, and trained at the United States Military's Battlefield Casualty Course in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Hill is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, as well as Basic and Advanced Trauma Life Support, and became an instructor in both. As a professor at the California Maritime Academy, he taught the course of Medicine at Sea to both Deck and Engineering Midshipmen. In addition to professional sea-going personnel, the same course was taught to recreational sailors before they left shore for extended periods of sea travel. He has been a featured speaker at "Safety at Sea Seminars" on both coasts and founded The Osteopathic Wilderness Medical Society, teaching field medicine in National Parks in California, Alaska, Texas, and the Caribbean Sea. He had lived aboard a 36' sailboat with his family while serving medicine in the community of Benicia, California, for thirty years as a Board-Certified Family Practitioner until retirement. This text represents his years of practice, teaching, and study.
