Dorothy Canfield Fisher (1879-1958) was an American educational reformer, novelist, and essayist. A graduate of Ohio State University and Columbia University, she was an advocate for progressive education and lifelong reading. Fisher played a role in shaping early Book-of-the-Month Club selections and wrote extensively for both adult and juvenile audiences. Understood Betsy remains one of her most widely read works.
