Eric Wayne Dickey is the author of several poetry chapbooks and a children's book, "Alex the Ant Goes to the Beach" (Craigmore Creations, 2014). He is a John Anson Kittredge Fund for Individual Artists grant recipient administered by Harvard University, and a Vermont Studio Center Fellow. The Book of James is his first full-length poetry collection. He lives in Oregon and works as a grant writer. He has published two ebooks of original poetry: The Hardy Boy Poems (Beard of Bees, Chicago: 2013) and Forgive Me, Tiny Robots (Argotist Online, UK: 2013). His original poetry has been published in PageBoy, Cloudbank, Lummox, and International Poetry Review, among other journals. Online, you can find his work at MORIA, Blazevox, Talking Writing, On Barcelona, and at Contrary Magazine which nominated his poem "James Dean" for a 2021 Pushcart Prize and a 2021 Best of the Net. He received an honorable mention in the 2021 Angela Consolo Mankiewicz Poetry Prize contest by Lummox Press for three poems from The Book of James. His translations of German poet Hans Arnfrid Astel have appeared in To Topos: Poetry International, Rhino, and International Poetry Review, and online at Truck. In 2022, Action Books featured an excerpt of his Astel translation on its blog, Action Fokus, calling it a "radical manuscript. " From 2002 to 2019, he co-edited Pacifica: Poetry International, an international poetry translation journal for which he received fellowships from Literary Arts of Oregon in 2005, 2008, and 2018. He is a cisgender, heteronormative, white male, a father, a husband, and a son. His mother was from the Saarland region of Germany, and his father was from the northeast corner of Oklahoma. He was born in the McConnell Air Force base hospital in Wichita, Kansas and spent the first 21 years of his life on or near military facilities. During his formative years, he lived in a small farming village in the Rheinland-Pfalz region of Germany. He graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Growing up in poverty, he began working at 12. He has lived in Oregon since 1991, primarily in Corvallis, but also in Ashland and Eugene. His spouse is from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and their two, now-grown children were born in Oregon. He briefly attended the University of Maryland in Germany and Long Beach City College in Long Beach, California, before receiving his Associates of Arts degree from Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. He then transferred to Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon where he earned an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Philosophy, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Poetry. He has worked as a grant writer and grants administrator since 2002 and has been an active member of the National Organization of Research Developers (NORDP. org) since 2015, for which he currently serves as treasurer on the board of directors. Most of his career was spent at Oregon State University, but he also worked for several years at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. He is a poet, children's author, writer, and translator trained in American and German culture and education systems. He is dedicated to supporting climate health and to protecting earth-given resources. He has a strong commitment to under-represented people. He strives to provide inclusive access to his approach and products in order to honor all individuals as they navigate their own individual and institutional contexts. He believes one person's wellness benefits their communities.
