George G. M. James (1893-1956) was a Guyanese-American historian and educator whose work focused on the cultural and intellectual contributions of Africa to world civilisation. Educated in both the Caribbean and the United States, James taught philosophy and mathematics and became known for his challenge to conventional accounts of Greek philosophical origins. Stolen Legacy remains his most influential and widely read work.
