Dr. Jagabandhu Samal, (B. 1944), Completed M. A. from Ravenshaw College, Utkal University (1967), M. Phil (1979) and Ph. D. (1992) from Gokhle Institute of Politics and Economics, University of Pune. He has 40 Years of teaching experience in Colleges and Research Institutes and has more than 30 years of research experience in the field of Tribal Economy, Tribal Development and Culture. After his retirement from Government Service as a College Teacher in 2002, he is working as an honorary professor at Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS), Koraput, Odisha. COATS is an Academic-cum-Research Institute in the field of Tribal Studies which has been recognized as a centre of Excellency by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MOTA), Govt. of India and ICSSR recognized Institute. 16 M. Phil Scholars and 3 Ph. D. Scholars have successfully been awarded Degrees under the guidance of Dr. Samal. He has authored six numbers of books and published a number of research-based articles. He is one of the founder members of Sri Jagannath Mandir, Sabara Srikhetra, Koraput, Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS), and Tribal Museum established at Koraput, Odisha. He is also the Co-Editor of Tribal Studies- A Journal of COATS, and editor of Sabara Srikhetra Samachar, published by COATS and Sri Jagannath Mandir, Koraput respectively.
