After an early career as headmaster of a small primary school in the Gambia, and further work in Tanzania, Botwana and Ireland, James Batty. moved to New York and became a management consultant, a job which enabled him to travel widely and fish regularly in his spare time. He now lives near the tip of Cornwall on the west coast of England with his bewildered American wife Shelley.
