John Avlon. is an award-winning journalist, author, and historian. A former CNN senior political analyst and anchor as well as editor-in-chief of The Daily Beast. , he is the author of Washington's Farewell. and Lincoln and the Fight for Peace. , among other books. Early in his career, he served as chief speechwriter to New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, where he and his team were responsible for writing the eulogies for the firefighters and police officers murdered in the destruction of the World Trade Center. Avlon ran for Congress in 2024 and now serves as the chairman of Citizens Union of New York. He lives in New York with his wife, Margaret Hoover, and their two children, Jack and Toula Lou.
