Julien Dugnoille. is an anthropologist whose research explores the cultural meanings of commodification, care, and death in human-animal relationships, with a focus on cats and dogs in urban contexts. He has conducted immersive ethnographic fieldwork in South Korea, engaging with market traders, animal protection activists, and NGOs to investigate how companion species are positioned between singularization and commodification, even beyond the moment of slaughter, and he has recently extended this research to France and the UK, developing a comparative, critical lens on evolving forms of interspecies companionship.
