In her fifth Pudgy Possum book, Kathy was encouraged to include kittens at the suggestion of her granddaughter, Elishar. There is one kitten for each of her three granddaughters who love cats. Learning to paint kittens was challenging, resulting in a longer completion time for this book. It took much longer to finish, but Kathy still enjoyed the process. Kathy has had several real-life encounters with skunks, so maybe someday Peppermint the Skunk will get a book of her own. Kathy never knows what kind of critter will turn up on the farm she shares with her husband in southeast Ohio, where various animals, including coyotes, are frequently heard at night.
