Born in the 1950s to a submariner and a 'cockney' rebel, he engaged early with sport and books. A deep thirst for knowledge was well served by King Edward IV Grammar and the University of London. Playing a respectable level of football, golf and with a thirty-five-year squash habit, it became apparent that he'd need to work for a living. After a season at Butlin's, cost accounting, grass-cutting for the RAF, and an accidental gap year, he stumbled into brewing. Thirty-five years later, after running sales teams across the UK, he set up his own business. An ensuing sense of freedom drew him back to creative writing.
