Lewis Horner is a writer and historian with a particular passion for the civilisations of ancient and medieval Southeast Asia. Raised in County Clare on the western seaboard of Ireland - a landscape that formed in him an early and instinctive sympathy for the histories of peoples who fought long odds against larger powers - he came to the story of the Trưng Sisters through a decade of reading in Vietnamese, Chinese, and comparative colonial history. He is drawn to the moments where official records and popular memory diverge, convinced that what survives outside the imperial archive is often closer to the truth of lived experience than what survives within it. He lives and writes on the west coast of Ireland, where the Atlantic reminds him daily that horizons are always further than they appear.
