Mark Hagerott was a nuclear-trained officer and former chief engineer of USS Bainbridge (CGN 25), commanded the USS Kauffman (FFG 59), and served as U. S. Navy Officer in Charge in NATO Training Mission Afghanistan. Ashore, he served on the staffs of the Atlantic Fleet, Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and Deputy Secretary of Defense. He graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy and Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and holds a PhD in the history of technology from the University of Maryland. He served on the faculty of the U. S. Naval Academy and is the former chancellor of the North Dakota University System.
