Dr. Mateusz abuz. is a researcher at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH), where he leads the International Cybersecurity project. He earned his Ph. D. from Chemnitz University of Technology. He served as a career diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, graduated from the Diplomatic Academy, and worked at the Polish Embassy in Berlin. He was a member of the Task Force on the Safety of Children and Youth in the Digital World, established by the Minister of Justice, preparing amendments to the Polish Criminal Code regarding penalties for abusing deepfakes technology. He lectures on cybersecurity, disinformation, and fact-checking at the University of the National Education Commission in Kraków. He is an expert for the CEE Digital Democracy Watch, the Pulaski Foundation, and Future Shift Labs. His research interests include the impact of artificial intelligence on social relations, as well as new trends in the field of disinformation and cognitive warfare. For over twenty years, he has run the WarHist. pl website, dedicated to the history of World War II. In his free time, he plays beach volleyball and has participated in national championship in Poland and Germany.
