Matthew Gentile is a lifelong Boston sports fan and the grandson of Edward "Red" Mahoney. Born in Boston and raised in Texas, he has spent the past two decades living in Florida but has always felt a strong connection to Boston's rich sports history, inspired in part by the grandfather he never had the chance to know. A devoted Celtics and Red Sox fan, Matthew grew up hearing fragments of his grandfather's story from family members and spent years researching the forgotten world Red inhabited through hundreds of newspaper archives, journals, books, historical databases, and conversations with hockey historians. Driven by a desire to uncover the truth behind his grandfather's mysterious connection to the Boston Bruins, Matthew pieced together a remarkable story about the early days of American hockey and the overlooked figures who helped shape Boston sports history. He lives in Tampa, Florida, with his wife and three children.
