Mhaine Mór Kelly was raised in County Clare, within sight of the very land to which so many dispossessed Catholic families were transplanted in the years following the Cromwellian settlement. A lifelong student of seventeenth-century Irish history, Kelly has spent years tracing the surviving depositions, parliamentary records, and siege accounts of the Confederate Wars through Irish archives and private collections. Drawing on this research, Kelly writes narrative nonfiction that restores the human scale to Ireland's most devastating conflict - the ambitions, betrayals, and battlefield triumphs of a Catholic state built and lost within a single generation. Kelly lives in Ireland and continues to write on the wars, rebellions, and lost sovereignties of the early modern Irish and European world.
