Michael C. Keith is an acclaimed American writer and media historian whose career spans more than five decades. He is the author of The Next Better Place, the memoir praised for its vivid portrayal of his unconventional childhood, and more than two dozen collections of short fiction and micro-prose, including Of Night and Light, Sad Boy, Everything Is Epic, The Collector of Tears, If Things Were Made to Last Forever, Stories in the Key of Me, Pieces of Bones and Rags, Bodies in Recline, Euphony, The Loneliness Channel, Pings, and his most recent micro-prose poetry collection, Sunglasses in a Dark Room, published by Silver Bow Publishing. Before turning to fiction, Keith authored numerous influential books on electronic media, among them The Radio Station, Talking Radio, Voices in the Purple Haze, Signals in the Air, Radio Cultures, and Waves of Rancor, the latter selected for President Clinton's official summer reading list. Keith has been nominated multiple times for the Pushcart Prize, the PEN/O. Henry Award, the PEN/Faulkner Award, and the IPPY Award, and was a finalist for the National Indie Excellence Award and the International Book Award in the "Fiction Visionary" category. He served as a faculty member in the Communication Department at Boston College from 1993 until his retirement as Emeritus Professor in 2017, and previously held academic posts at George Washington University, Marquette University, and Dean College. His work in media studies has earned him the Broadcast Education Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, the International Radio Television Society's Stanton Fellow Award, and the University of Rhode Island's Achievement Award in the Humanities. His fiction has appeared widely in print and online journals, and many of his books have been translated internationally.
