Michael Welch. received a PhD in sociology from the University of North Texas, Denton, and is Associate Professor in the Administration of Justice Program at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. He has correctional experience at the federal state, and local levels. His research interests include corrections and social control, and he has published dozens of book chapters and articles that have appeared in such journals as Justice Quarterly, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Crime, Law and Social Change, Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice, Women and Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Policy Review, Federal Probation: Journal of Correctional Philosophy and Practice,. and The Justice Professional. , among many others. He is also author of Corrections: A Critical Approach. (McGraw-Hill, 2/e in 2003). He serves as Coeditor for Social Pathology: A Journal of Reviews.
