Co-founder of Playwrights, Compass, Second City, Game Theater and creator of Story Theater, director Paul Sills' lifelong focus became creating shows with community players through immersion in urban America's progressive art form: improvisation. The son of Viola Spolin, he took her work in theater games all the way to Broadway, as he did with his own Paul Sills' Story Theater. His vision of community as self-authenticating participatory culture lives on.
