Autor/-in: Rob Moffitt
Rob Moffitt spent the first few years of his working life at the Royal Aircraft Establishment as a research scientist in one of the larger wind tunnels. He made some significant contributions to the safety of the very few vertical takeoff aircraft to see active service. Improved the low-speed handling characteristics of the Concorde, and even helped to determine why a cooling tower in a power station in the midlands collapsed. Eventually he left over a disagreement with the powers that be over the future of computing in aerodynamic research. And computing is where he spent the large majority of the rest of his career. He built, developed and maintained several generations of hardware, including some early cutting edge systems. Whisper the names MULTICS and Sigma quietly (IYKYK). Eventually he was responsible for running the computer department of a regional brewer. He later moved on to become an Innovation and Technology Counsellor for the Welsh Development Agency. He has had forays into self employment. the project to build a unique small sailboat suitable for both able-bodied and disabled sailors resulted in a completely successful boat that did not manage to find a market. Probably too much and too soon. A further time spent making stained and engraved glass which included some significant commissions. The end for that came when the contractor for the pseudo steam trains for the Paris Disneyland, after having delivered the three trains and been paid in full, went bankrupt rather than pay his bills. Rob was saddled with a huge debt while the contractor pocketed a fortune. Now retired and living in a small village outside Abergavenny with his family. He fills his time with his researches into his family tree, his garden and rescued dogs. He continues to design, build and fly miniature model aircraft. Oh, and he writes websites, blogs, and books, a film-script is the latest project.
