Sourdough Handschuh grew up as a baker's daughter in Germany, and having been an obsessive home-baker throughout her life, had always secretly wanted to own a bakery. That moment came in lockdown when Sophia and her partner Jesse set up a micro bakery from their dining room as a way to support and connect with the community. They began baking sourdough bread and laminated pastries for the locals with a couple of key values from artisanal techniques to an innovative menu, that still continue to set her bakeries apart today. With the help of a successful kickstarter campaign they opened the doors to their very first high street bakery in London's Crouch End in 2020. Since then they have opened neighbourhood bakeries in Islington, Highgate and Hampstead, and are looking forward to joining further communities in future.
