Steven L. Walker, a passionate historian, co-owned the Rappahannock River Campground with his wife, Katy, for 23 years, located 10 miles downstream from Kellys Ford. His experiences at the campground and the public boat launch ignited his interest in preserving local history. Walker holds a degree in American History from Mary Washington University and has worked at the Museum of Culpeper, Virginia. He is the author of "The Lower Rappahannock Fords of Culpeper County" and continues his documentation of the Rappahannock River's history with "The History of Kellys Ford on the Rappahannock River. " Now retired in Amherst, Virginia, he is on the Board at the Amherst County Museum and Historical Society.
