V. H. (Victoria) Dowd is an award-winning author and has been shortlisted for the CWA Daggers. Her debut novel won The People's Book Prize for fiction. It was also named In Search of the Classic Mystery. 's novel of the year. Her short fiction was awarded the Gothic Fiction prize, and her work has been published in various literary journals and anthologies. She is the former Vice Chair of the CWA and also a founder of the London crime writers' festival Bloody Barnes. Victoria is originally from Yorkshire, which possibly explains her passion for all things Gothic and, after studying law at Cambridge, went on to be a criminal law barrister for many years, appearing at the Old Bailey, until finally hanging up her wig in favour of more fictional crimes.
