Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Valencia Martin grew up in the storytelling tradition and is drawn to what lingers beneath the surface: the voices buried, the histories edited, and the truths waiting to be told. 'Unbound' is her requiem-a historical fiction novel set in Reconstruction-era Louisiana that was written with soul, grit, and purpose. She writes for readers who feel the past pressing on the present-and who know that healing begins by naming what was never said. This is her first novel but it won't be her last.
