Zack Ahmed is a scholar and writer whose work explores migration, belonging, and the quiet resilience of communities rebuilding life across borders. He holds a PhD in Global Governance from the Balsillie School of International Affairs at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada. His research examines migration, food security, climate resilience, and the lived realities of transnational life, with particular attention to Somali and other refugee communities navigating new societies while sustaining ties that stretch across continents. Dr. Ahmed has taught graduate level courses on international public policy. His academic work has been widely published in peer reviewed journals, policy reports, and edited volumes. He has presented his research at universities, international conferences, and global policy forums across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Alongside his academic work, he remains closely engaged with community initiatives, volunteering with organizations that support newcomer families, youth mentorship, and refugee integration. His academic and professional work has taken him into homes, mosques, markets, and community spaces across several continents. In Kitchener Waterloo, Nairobi's Eastleigh, Cape Town's Bellville, Addis Ababa's Bole Mikael, Kampala's Kisenyi, London's East End, and along Toronto's Dixon Road corridor, he has listened to stories of families rebuilding their lives while sustaining ties that stretch across oceans. These encounters revealed the truth that statistics alone cannot capture. Migration is not only movement across borders. It is the slow and often invisible work of creating belonging in more than one place at once. Dr. Ahmed's writing is shaped by both scholarship and lived experience. He grew up in Nairobi, worked in South Sudan and Tanzania, and now lives in Canada, carrying with him the layered identities of a global nomad. His work reflects the tensions and possibilities of living between worlds, the obligations that travel across continents, and the ways communities preserve dignity, faith, and hope while navigating unfamiliar institutions. All That We Carry Across Oceans is his debut novel. Drawing on years of research, community engagement, and personal reflection, the book brings together the intimate stories of families who rebuild their lives far from the places they once called home. Through these narratives, Dr. Ahmed explores the emotional architecture of diaspora, the quiet strength of parents who remake their worlds for their children, and the evolving meaning of belonging in a transnational age. He lives in the Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada, where he continues to teach, write, conduct research, and work closely with the communities that inspire his scholarship and storytelling.
