Abducting a General

Now in paperback, this is the late travel writer Patrick Leigh Fermor's own account of the operation to kidnap General Kreipe, the German Commander in Crete, in April 1944. Fermor and Captain Billy Moss kidnapped the general before escaping to Egypt, a real wartime adventure which was portrayed in the 1957 film "Ill Met By Moonlight".
