Das Ziel des Buches besteht darin, anhand einer systematischen Gliederung das gesamte Wissen um Cattleyen zu vermitteln. Es beschreibt die Gattung, ihre Einordnung im Pflanzensystem, die heimatlichen Standorte, Lebensweise, Aufbau und Merkmale der Pflanzen, Wachstumsfaktoren und Hinweise zur Kultur, zur Vermehrung und zu evtl. auftretenden Krankheiten und Schädlingen. Erstmalig wird ein Bestimmungsschlüssel zu allen Cattleya-Arten veröffentlicht. Schwerpunkt ist eine vollständige Beschreibung der einzelnen Arten. Englisch.
