Beschreibung
Film songs represent a rich yet often underappreciated genre of Urdu poetry, where literary elegance meets popular expression. Among the poets who elevated this form, Shakeel Badayooni (1916-1970) holds a distinguished place. Born in Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, he first gained recognition as a celebrated poet of mushairas before moving to Mumbai, where his career in cinema began. Encouraged by filmmaker A. R. Kardar and composer Naushad Ali, Shakeel debuted in the film Dard (1947), penning the memorable song 'Ham Dard ka Afsana Duniya ko Suna Denge, ' from which this book draws its title. His enduring collaboration with Naushad produced timeless classics in films such as Mughal-e-Azam, Dulari, Ganga Jamuna, and Mere Mehboob. This volume, compiled by Aijaz Ubaid, presents a curated selection of his finest songs, reflecting his lyrical depth, emotional resonance, and lasting contribution to Urdu poetic tradition. /.
