From a Plain Block to a Finished Shelf. What does it actually take to turn a plain block of clay into jewelry you can wear or a small figure you can set on a shelf. Far less than you would guess: no studio, no kiln, and no years of practice behind you, just a kitchen table, five simple tools, and a small oven you already know how to use. Why Each Project Feeds the Next. This book moves in one deliberate order: condition and color your clay, master five basic shapes, then build outward through beads, charms, and figures. Every technique is taught once and called on by name in later projects, so nothing is re-explained or left to guesswork. Along the way you blend custom colors, marble and slice pattern canes, press crisp texture, and wrap wire into loops that turn a bead into a wearable link. Later chapters build standing, seated, and animal figures over a foil and wire armature, curing each at exact times and honest temperatures. What the Thirteen Projects Teach. Five core shapes. the ball, snake, teardrop, sheet, and coil that every project is built from. Color from scratch. custom blends, smooth gradients, marbling, and sliced pattern canes. Safe, exact curing. thickness based times, oven thermometer checks, and a reliable bend test. Wire that wears. wrapped loops, jump rings, and findings that turn a bead into jewelry. Figures with character. armature, proportion, and posing for standing, seated, and animal forms. A lasting finish. wet sanding through four grits, sealing choices, and display that protects color. Made for the Kitchen-Table Maker. Total beginners who have never touched clay before. Jewelry makers who want beads, pendants, and earrings of their own. Crafters drawn to tiny charms for a bag or bracelet. Anyone who wants to sculpt small figures without a studio. If you have ever worried that a first piece will crack in the oven, or that the curing step sounds risky, the early chapters settle both concerns in plain language before you shape a single thing.
