Beschreibung
Clare Beckett is an accountant, thirty-three, and unmarried, her life overshadowed by nagging thoughts of what might have been. What if, as a teenager, she had been there in time to save her brother's life. What if she had pursued her dream of becoming a mathematician. What if she hadn't called off her engagement with her longtime fiancé. In Clare's dreams she begins to see glimpses of other lives she could have had if she had made different choices, lives in which she is brilliant and successful, or happily married, or her brother is still alive. But these visions are more than just dreams, they have the intensity, the realness, of actual memories. And when elements from these other worlds start to bleed into her everyday life, the lines between reality and fantasy will begin to blur in terrifying ways. More terrifying still, if Clare's consciousness can move between realities, that means her other selves can do the same, can invade her reality, usurp her existence. Originally published as part of the celebrated Dell Abyss line of cutting-edge '90s horror, Lisa Tuttle's Lost Futures. (1992) returns to print at last, joining four other Tuttle titles available from Valancourt and further confirming her status as one of the finest contemporary writers of speculative fiction. 'One of the most powerful talents in the field. ' - Kim Newman, City Lights. 'Lisa Tuttle has become a major force in macabre fiction. ' - Stephen Jones, Fantasy Review. 'Tuttle is less fanciful than Barker and more deeply unsettling. ' - New Statesman. 'Lisa Tuttle is simply one of the very best writers in the field. ' - Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Review.
