Marsden Hartley

An authoritative study of Marsden Hartley's lifelong passion for travel and its significance for the development of American modernism. Features some 200 illustrations of Hartley's works and personal photographs and possessions. Includes full reproductions of a typescript by the artist on the circus, a photograph album of his travels and a notebook of 'Color Exercises'. Accompanies an exhibition opening at the Vilcek Foundation, New York, on April 29th 2020, and then travelling to Bates College Museum of Art, Lewiston, Maine for October 2020 to March 2021
