The Chesapeake Bay is one of Maryland's most important natural resources. In fact, the state is so rich in water that its clippers became famous sailing ships around the world. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal was built between 1828 and 1850, connecting the Delaware River and Chesapeake Bay. It is also home to the Baltimore Clippers, which were famous for their sailing ability.
