Beschreibung
A dark-skinned woman in three-quarter profile against a pale grey background. Her gaze is fixed intently into the distance; absent-minded and yearning at the same time. Her upper body and face are painted white. A line of black dots divides her face and chest into two symmetrical halves. In stark contrast to her pale skin are the young woman's hands, bathed in a rich red. Her arms are crossed in front of her chest. Whilst her right hand encircles the joint of her left arm, her left hand rests at the side of her neck. Her thumb follows the curve of her neck. The fingers of a third, unfamiliar hand rest on her left shoulder from behind. It is the exhibition poster for the Museum of Modern Art, described above, which provided the impetus for writing this paper. With highly interesting and diverse works, over 50 artists from twenty countries took part in the exhibition 'The Divine Comedy: Heaven, Hell, Purgatory from the Perspective of Contemporary African Artists'. The aim: to provide an insight into African art production and to deconstruct or relativise Western perspectives.
