Padstow

Archaeological evidence shows that Padstow's history stretches back nearly 5,000 years. According to legend, in 520 AD St. Petroc landed from Ireland on the north Cornish coast and chose a hilltop site for his monastery. During the medieval period, the port imported goods from Ireland and the Mediterranean while exporting slate, copper, tin, and fish. Shipbuilding thrived in the early nineteenth century, and the arrival of the railway in 1899 marked the beginning of tourism in Padstow. Today, the town remains a working fishing port. The spectacular views over the Camel Estuary, its picturesque harbor, winding lanes, old cottages, and ancient church all contribute to its charm. Padstonians form a close-knit community-many families have lived there for generations-and they remain dedicated to keeping Padstow's traditions alive for years to come.
