Ex-soldier Tom Scobie had won the safe parliamentary constituency of Ridgeway, against all the odds, only to discover that his seat is anything but safe. At home shady figures seek to undermine him and things get even more dangerous abroad. The prime minister sends him on a delicate mission and he quickly finds himself entangled in a world of multinational criminality. Tom finds himself pitted against unseen enemies at home and elusive criminals across the Balkans. His adversaries always seem one step ahead. The puppet master is still at work trying to lure an old friend of Tom's into his network of influence. The battle of wits becomes increasingly dangerous, Tom must untangle the web of corruption and intrigue, to save his old friend - and himself.
