Runkelstein Castle

The castle’s uniqueness lies in the frescoes that have decorated both the interior and exterior areas since 1400, for which reason the castle is sometimes referred to as the ‘illustrated manor’. These frescos, inspired by chivalric poems and other non-biblical topics, constitute the largest preserved secular Gothic fresco cycle in Tyrol and the German-speaking countries.
