When an empty passenger plane crashes into a mountain in the Lake District, killing the two pilots on board, journalist Carly Atherton senses a story that could save her career. But to find out what caused a plane with no reported faults and two 'fit-to'-fly' pilots on board to crash during a routine flight, she must delve into dynamics of a seemingly ordinary family and emerge with a far darker story than she was expecting. Because the bonds that shape us can also tear us apart. And sometimes there are monsters living amongst us, hiding in plain sight.
