Long ago, on a winter's eve, two sisters walked into a wolf-wild wood but only one returned. It's been seven years since Clover lost her headstrong little sister Lilac in the pathless forests of Goldbrooke. Since then she's never left the family cottage, afraid of what, or who, lies beyond it. That is until she hears the stirring music of wandering travellers, and in their song, The Ballad of The Scarlet Bandits,. recognises a figure that can only be her missing sister. Can Clover find this troupe of misfits, led by a mysterious leader cloaked in red velvet.
