The study analyzes how the excessive use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education is changing the dynamics of teaching and learning. It identifies a growing dependence on technology that leads to the loss of essential cognitive skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and intellectual autonomy. Furthermore, it raises ethical concerns related to plagiarism and the lack of authorship in academic work. The research, conducted at a higher education institution in San Pedro de las Colonias, Coahuila, uses a quantitative and descriptive-correlational approach to measure the impact of these practices. The results show that, although AI facilitates efficiency and access to information, its excessive use undermines educational quality and students' holistic development. The study proposes promoting an ethical, critical, and regulated use of AI by integrating pedagogical strategies that balance technology with human elements.
