Published in Britain at the end of 1986, this and its "prequel" (The Colour of Magic, above) were among the top five best-selling books on the 1986 Andromeda list. Moreover, Pratchett was Andromeda's best-selling author for the same year. It was also chosen as a lead title for Doubleday's Science Fiction Book Club.
