Beschreibung
A lost breed, recoverable only in print: the liver-and-white shooting spaniel that the springer absorbed. The Norfolk Spaniel - A Complete Anthology of the Dog. gathers the surviving chapters on a breed that no longer exists, among them John Meyrick's House Dogs and Sporting Dogs. (1861), Vero Shaw's The Illustrated Book of the Dog. (1879) and James Watson's The Dog Book. (1906). They describe a large, strong-willed spaniel, liver and white or black and white, that worked land and water and attached itself fiercely to one person. In 1902 the Kennel Club swept every medium-legged spaniel that was not a Clumber or a Sussex into the English Springer, and the Norfolk simply ceased to be a breed. These chapters are, in effect, all that is left of it. This edition features:. The surviving period literature on an extinct British spaniel. Chapters by Meyrick (1861), Vero Shaw (1879) and Watson (1906). Points, temperament and working ability, as recorded before the breed was absorbed. Essential for spaniel historians and collectors of lost breeds.
