Beschreibung
He told her he would be right back. On April 11, 2001, twenty-year-old Branson Perry stepped out the back door of his father's house on West Oak Street in Skidmore, Missouri, to put some jumper cables in a storage shed thirty feet away. He never came back. His friend Jena Crawford waited inside. When she went to look, Branson was gone. When police first checked the shed six days later, the jumper cables weren't there. Two weeks after that, they appeared, just inside the door. Branson Perry has never been found. Two suspects have dominated the investigation. Jason Biermann, Branson's neighbor, allegedly drugged him four days before the disappearance and took sexual advantage of him. Branson told his father and considered going to the police. He never did. Then he vanished. And Jack Wayne Rogers - a former Presbyterian minister and Boy Scout leader from Fulton, Missouri - was arrested in 2003 for performing botched surgery and possession of child pornography. On his computer, investigators found detailed online posts describing the rape, torture, and murder of a blonde male hitchhiker from Skidmore, Missouri. In his van, they found a leather necklace with a turtle claw that Branson's father identified as his son's. Rogers denied everything. He was never charged with Branson's disappearance. He died in prison. A drug house northeast of Skidmore - that appeared in witness accounts and anonymous tips - burned to the ground less than a week after Branson disappeared. Branson is the cousin of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, murdered in the same small town in 2004 (The Baby Thief, Book 4). Investigators say they have a suspect. They need evidence. Two excavations in Quitman have found indications that something was buried - but not Branson's remains. The town that watched Ken McElroy get shot in front of sixty witnesses and said nothing is still keeping its secrets. The Vanishing at Skidmore. is Book 6 in the Ozark Crime series.
