Beschreibung
In the early 1980s, the night sky above New York's Hudson Valley became the setting for one of the largest and most controversial UFO waves in American history. Families, motorists, police officers, pilots, engineers, and air-traffic professionals reported enormous formations of lights moving slowly over Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties, sometimes extending into western Connecticut. Many witnesses described a dark boomerang, triangle, or V-shaped object so large that it appeared to block out the stars. Others saw multiple aircraft flying in close formation. What actually crossed the Hudson Valley. UFO: THE HUDSON VALLEY reconstructs the sightings from their uncertain beginnings in late 1982 through the major reporting waves of 1983 and 1984. Drawing on contemporary reporting, official statements, witness testimony, photographs, video recordings, aviation evidence, and later investigations, the book examines:. - The enormous Westchester boomerang- The mass sightings of March 24, 1983- Reports from families, motorists, and police officers- The disputed incidents near the Indian Point nuclear facility- Photographs and videos recorded during the wave- The Stormville aircraft formations- The investigation that produced Night Siege- The psychological and perceptual problems of nighttime observation- The evidence that remains unresolved. This investigation neither assumes an extraterrestrial explanation nor dismisses the witnesses. Instead, it separates documented facts, personal testimony, probable misidentifications, and claims that emerged only years later. The result is a detailed and balanced examination of how genuine observations, unusual aviation activity, imperfect evidence, media attention, and collective uncertainty created a UFO mystery that still endures.
