This book examines the German medieval polemic. The genre of the medieval polemic poem has not yet been the subject of a comprehensive study in Germanic studies. In the first part of this thesis, the theoretical approaches to German polemical poetry, as well as to polemical poetry in other national languages, are outlined and described. Using the polemic in Ulrich von Liechtenstein's Frauenbuch between a lady and a knight, these theoretical approaches are then tested, and the polemic in the Frauenbuch is placed within a genre-theoretical context.
