Re-centering on "Things" Revisiting Wang Fuzhi's Philosophy; Revitalizing Classical Theories of Things to Counteract Modern Alienation 以"物"为轴，重梳船山哲学；激活古典物论，对抗现代性异化 In the modern context of an ever-widening alienation between humanity and nature, can we still re-establish a fundamental connection with heaven and earth through "things". Grounded in the philosophy of ancient Chinese thinker Wang Fuzhi, this book explores the mediating role of "things" between the metaphysical and the human realm, responding to the "rootlessness" of modern conditions. The author argues that Wang Fuzhi's conception of "Heaven" (Tian) has "no body as its body" and functions through the transformation of qi (vital force), generating all things without dominating them. "Things" (wu), in turn, embody the hidden operations of the Dao of Heaven, possessing continuity, substantiality, and universal resonance. The human body, as a "heavenly thing," belongs both to nature and to human meaning; its cultivation is precisely the unfolding of moral practice. Through "self-cultivation" (xiushen), the body is transformed, attaining metaphysical radiance in the交感 (interaction and resonance) between Heaven and humanity. "Artifacts" and "rites and music" (liyue) are not merely the results of technical activities, but rather embodiments of virtue and the Dao of Heaven-cultural projects that introduce the order of the Dao of Heaven into the human realm.
