Movement is medicine. Consistency is the cure. For more than two decades, Margaret Chen has taught seated Tai Chi to people who were told they were "too old," "too tired," or "too injured" to move. They were none of those things. They were waiting for a practice that met them where they were. This is that practice. Chair Tai Chi is not a watered-down version of standing Tai Chi. It is its own complete tradition - gentle on the joints, rich in benefits, and accessible to anyone who can sit upright in a chair for ten minutes a day. Inside, you'll find: - Ten classical Yang-style forms adapted for the chair (Cloud Hands, Brush Knee Push, Single Whip, Golden Rooster Stands on One Leg, Repulse Monkey, and more)- A six-movement warm-up that takes five minutes and prepares the joints for practice- Three breath patterns to deepen relaxation and build coordination- A complete 28-day program, structured as four weekly arcs of building skill, progression, and integration- Three difficulty levels for every form - Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced - so the practice grows with you- Fifty-three full-page illustrations in large print, each showing the form, the body alignment, and the common mistakes to avoid>What makes this approach different is its commitment to the seated form as a complete practice in its own right. You won't be asked to imagine the standing version. You won't be told this is preparation for something else. The chair is where the practice lives, and the chair is enough. Written for adults sixty and older - and for anyone recovering, rebuilding, or simply starting where they are. Large Print Edition with 16-point typography for comfortable reading. -- Author bio Margaret Chen is a Senior Wellness Specialist and certified Tai Chi instructor based in Northern California. She has been teaching seated Tai Chi for over twenty-two years, primarily to adults 60 and older, in senior centers, rehabilitation clinics, and assisted-living communities. Her practice combines the Yang-style Tai Chi she learned from her grandfather with a careful, anatomy-informed approach developed over decades of working with people who have arthritis, recent hip or knee replacements, mild balance impairment, or simply the desire to keep moving as the years pass. She believes movement is one of the most reliable forms of self-respect available to us at any age - and that ten minutes a day, performed with attention, is enough to change a life. She lives with her family and teaches a small weekly online class. This is her first book.
